Greg's Greenkeeping Blog March 2018

It’s hard to remember a winter that has been as severe as this one. Over the last 23 weeks there have been only 19 dry days, with only 8 of those getting above 3 degrees celsius.

February has been a continuation of this winters trend of weather patterns. Cold spells followed by wet spells followed by cold spells have really tested our resolve as a greenkeeping team.

November

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog November 2017

November has been a very difficult month as we have endured some terrible weather systems throughout. The header image is on the last day of the month and pretty much sums up the way things have been, starting badly and then going down hill.

September

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog September 2017

September has been a very busy month for us, unfortunately it has also been the wettest. In the month we endured some torrential bursts and at one spell we had 3 ½ inches in the space of just 5 days.

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog August 2017

August has been an eventful month at Hunley, which I guess you would expect, but there are a few things for me to report back on in this months blog.

July

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog July 2017

You could say that July is our biggest month of the year. This is certainly the case when it comes to our membership, with both Captains day and Club Championship falling in this month.

June

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog June 2017

June was a month of extremes, with heavy rainfall followed by searing heat followed by more heavy rainfall. As is so often the case, this brings with it benefits but also problems.

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog May 2017

My monthly blog often starts with a summary of the recent weather conditions and despite it being a little repetitive, it’s impossible to get away from the fact that the climatic conditions are the biggest influencing factor while doing our job.

April

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog April 2017

So far this spring we have experienced some pretty decent weather. However at the end of April temperatures took a dip, bringing back more winter like conditions.

March

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog March 2017

After a winter without much rain, March saw quite a bit fall, leaving some areas very wet for a period. That said it hasn't hampered us too much and the course is all ready for the busy schedule of golf to begin.

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog February 2017

February was mostly a good dry month and which for the most part has been the trend this winter. We have continued with our program of bunker refurbishment completing improvements on 3 more holes, machinery servicing and maintenance has progressed close to completion and we have been carrying out some preparation to the playing surfaces with mowing of key areas and with treatments to the greens and approaches.

The new year has started with more of the same in terms of work, with a couple of important additions too.

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog December 2016

2016 has come to an end and we now head into the new year with lots to look forward to. The year started very wet and although things dried up quickly the temperatures remained well below average for the first 6 months. This saw conditions frequently bringing mist and fog and whilst the course was in prime condition, we lost quite a few days through course closure due to a lack of visibility.

Greg's Greenkeeping Blog August 2016
